I have been trying out this game every now and then for quite a while now, checking back to see how the game evolves and grows and what new delights can be discovered, and overall the game has a lot of promise. It's what has me coming back over and over again, delighting in the advancement of the game and the polish I see added with every version. Now, over the... years? Maybe? It's been a long time, though I'm not entirely sure how long, I have seen and learned a lot about this game.
I discovered bugs that I learned to avoid until they were patched and learned relatively obscure systems through trial and error before they were made explicit. I've had way too many characters kill themselves over unsatisfied "company" needs, I had characters get uncontrollably obese until I realized that I had to increase food spending to stop gaining weight. I've managed to figure out a lot of things... but this one has me stumped.
Essentially I had a character with Contortionist (I've never actually used its qualities before, I just like the concept of the trait), Elastic Orifices, Ethanol Immunity, Hyper Menstral Cycle, Multiple Ovulation and Rapid Gestation (I used to run one with Twin Wombs, too, until I suddenly discovered that being too pregnant can be lethal), and after several months I noticed that her "looks" listed her as "skeletal" and "near-death". I started spending a lot of money on weight-gain drugs, but it turned out that she was actually losing weight faster than the drugs could make her gain it. After a while she even got a status effect of "starving", actually saying that "death is near", prompting me to give up.
Now, she had already carried one set of quadruplets and one of triplets to term and was lactating quite profusely, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it; that the copious amounts of pregnancies and lactation was draining her of nutrients somehow, so I tried making a character without Hyper Menstral Cycle and Multiple Ovulation, and with merely "normal" fertility... yet I just noticed, after about a month or so of in-game time during which she has not even been pregnant, let alone lactating, that her looks are now described as "anorexic"... meaning she is losing weight, too.
So... whereas once I struggled with and overcame the mystery of why my characters all turned obese, I am now puzzled as to why they all seem to be (at varying, but rapid rates) starving to death. Increasing or decreasing food spending seems to have no effect, and weight-gain drugs and fastfood only seem to delay the inevitable. I am playing version 0.41.1, if that makes any difference.
As the title says: Why is my character starving?
